Romain Tiercin est né le 16 mars 1987 à Colmar en Alsace. L’art a habité Romain très tôt grâce à son père. À l’âge de 3 ans, il créa ses premières peintures à l’huile. À l’âge de 5 ans, il modelait en argile toute une collection d’animaux qu’il peignait avec de la gouache. À 6 ans, il intégrait des cours de peinture et à 7 ans, il signa ses premiers bronzes à cire perdue. Son grand-père, compagnon du devoir menuisier et charpentier, a poursuivi sa formation en lui faisant découvrir sa passion pour le bois.

Après ses études et sept années dans l’industrie, il prend conscience que la vie qu’il désire réside dans la création. Il quitte son travail pour une carrière artistique. La sculpture devient alors son nouvel univers.

Pour parfaire sa technique, Romain suit les cours de Madeleine Tezenas à Toulouse. Ancienne élève des Beaux Arts de Paris et de Rome, sculptrice officielle de l’air et de l’espace et du cadre noir de Saumur, elle lui apprend à observer et partage avec lui son amour pour la sculpture.

Il côtoie également Martine Vaugel, sculptrice de renommée internationale qui a remporté deux fois le concours Rodin et a été directrice de sculpture de l’Académie des arts de New-York. Elle lui transmet sans retenue ses connaissances et sa vision de la sculpture.

Séduit par le caractère préservé des Pyrénées, il installe son atelier à Foix en Ariège.

Romain Tiercin was born in Colmar, Alsace (France) on March, 16th 1987. Thanks to his father, art became a part of him from early on. He created is first oil paintings at the age of three. By the time Romain was five, he was sculpting collections of clay animals he would later paint with gouache. When he was six, he entered a painting academy and the following year, signed his first bronze sculptures cast through lost wax process. His grand-father, a carpenter and joiner « Compagnon du devoir » (a French craftmen’s order dating back to the Middle Ages), further enriched Romain’s training by sharing his own passion for woodworking.

After completing his studies and working in the industrial sector for seven years, Romain realized his life’s aspiration was to create. He left his job in order to dedicate to a career in art: sculpture became his new universe.

So as to improve is technique, Romain attended Madeleine Tezenas’ course in Toulouse. A former student at Paris’ and Rome’s « Beaux Arts » and the official sculptor of Air and Space, as well as Saumur’s “Cadre noir” (the French national horse riding school), she teaches him to observe, and shares with him her love of sculpture.

He also gets acquainted to Martine Vaugel, an internationally-renowned sculptor – twice the winner of the Rodin award and former director of sculpture at the New York Art Academy – who wholeheartedly shared her knowledge and vision of sculpture with him.

Lured by the raw, untouched beauty of the Pyrenees, he sets his workshop in Foix, Ariège
